I’m shifting from Britain to Singapore as a result of the UK is a rip-off and the standard of life is horrible

A woman has revealed she is swapping her life in the UK for Singapore because the UK is ‘a rip off’ and ‘everyone is miserable’.

Diana Auria, 36, who lived in Kent for 10 years, packed her life up and moved to Singapore with her husband Jack and their four-year-old son in January.

Taking to TikTok the mother -of-one revealed her growing frustration with the quality of life in the UK.

The family-of-three revealed they  got on a ‘one way flight’ heading to the Philippines, before moving onto Singapore for their ‘world school journey’.

In a clip, which racked up more than 300,000 views, Diana listed a host of complaints about the UK which included the ‘negative atmosphere’, ‘awful weather’, skyrocketing house prices, knife crime and ‘the cost of living crisis.’

The fashion designer started the video by labelling the country a ‘rip-off’ which many people in the comments agreed with.

She said: ‘The cost of living has increased so much in the last few years, everything has gotten so expensive. Supermarkets, eating out, petrol, gas and electric. Inflation at its highest.

‘Rent and house prices have gone crazy. Interest rates are high. Not much disposable income. Quality of life is very low.’

Diana also believes the UK isn’t ‘a great place to bring up children’ in comparison to other countries, as the gloomy weather means a lot of youngsters are ‘staying indoors watching screens’.

She said: ‘It’s too cold or rainy most of the year to be outside, so end up just staying indoors and watching screens.

‘Not many places are kid-friendly,” said Diana, adding that days-out are also costly.

The mother said the cold climate was her third reason, as she pointed out that ‘summers don’t even feel like summer anymore’.

She admitted that the chilly temperatures ‘really affect her skin’ and causes her eczema to ‘flare up’.

She added: ‘It rains so often in the summer, probably due to climate change, it barley reaches over 25 degrees.’

Diana also said that seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is also a huge factor in moving as the UK is ‘so dark during peak winter’.

The TikToker added that there is a lack of ‘work-life balance’ in the UK, saying people are ‘stuck in the rat race.’

Meanwhile Diana reckons the UK property market is awful with house prices being unaffordable for most.

She said: ‘Housing is so expensive and small, houses are either really old, need major renovation (building costs are so much now) or the new builds are made of cardboard and have tiny box rooms.’

She also took aim at the UK government, saying that it ‘feels like everything is falling apart including ‘the NHS which has been run down to its knees due to lack of funding’.

She added: ‘There is so much negativity. Feels like there is no hope, no innovation, no job prospects, no wage increases – people are deflated.

‘There is a tax for everything, Income tax, value added tax, council tax, road tax, TV tax, stamp duty, capital gains tax. The government try squeeze your pockets at every turn.’

While Diana said she also has a ‘long list of things she loves about England’, currently, the ‘negatives outweigh the positives’.

In another video, which racked up over one million views, Diana gave a part two for her reasoning to leave the UK.

She claimed ‘war anxiety’ and fear of ‘terror attacks in London’ are a major factor in her choices, as well as, dilapidated ‘run down and empty high streets’ saying the government is ‘anti-small business.’

Meanwhile she revealed she is also concerned about the growing movement of ‘far right extremism’ and people ‘abusing the benefits system.’

One person said: ‘Left 5 years ago….wish I had left when I was in my 20s. The world is a beautiful place. You don’t realise how bad people in the UK have it until you move.’

Another said: ‘Moved to the UK 2008 but by 2020 the country really had changed for the worse and quality of life just wasn’t the same so we moved to Sweden just before Brexit kicked in.’

Someone else wrote: ‘These are some of the reasons we left England and moved to the Philippines.’

A fourth added: ‘That’s not living. That’s surviving.

‘We left UK three years ago after 10 years there. Live in Australia now and my kids are thriving. There will be things you miss but the weather will not be one of them.’

However others claimed the grass wasn’t always greener on the other side.

One person said: ‘Sorry to be honest but I’ve lived in so many countries and I keep moving back to the uk as although on face value other places seem better – reality starts sinking in after time and you realise…’

Another added: ‘You don’t realise how good the UK is until you go and live somewhere else.’

Someone else wrote: ‘As a Brit who moved from the UK for a better life in America, I lasted 4 years and brought my kids right back and now settled in Cornwall. My cost of living is cheaper in Cornwall.’

A fourth added: ‘I moved to Toronto and miss the UK so bad. Technically have a better quality of life here but home is where the heart is.’

A fifth said: ‘We have just came back from Dubai….. no comment as a family of 5 not all that glitters is gold’
