Football fans have lapped up ‘one of the best moments in Sunday League history’ as a player was seemingly confronted by his partner after it was alleged he cheated on her.

We’ve all played or been involved in a Sunday League game or team in one way or another, with the calls of ‘Get rid’ and ‘Still 0-0 lads’ from the team that’s at least four goals up, heard above all else from the mumbled voices of hungover and tired players.

However, one thing you don’t expect to see on a Sunday League pitch is a player being confronted by their better half. But that’s what happened during a game involving Wythenshawe side Newall Green.

Footage captured pitchside saw a Newall Green player explain that “One of their team has cheated on his missus, his missus has just come and cracked him on the pitch.”

The video continued to show a player walking away from a woman with his head down as she quickly broke into a jog and chased after him. The woman then cracked the player round the back of the head twice, leaving his team-mates in shock.

As the clip continued, the player rubbed the back of his head but couldn’t hold back the pain any longer, as he dropped to his haunches holding his head. His team-mates then came to check he was okay and to offer a hand before another player was seen talking to the woman, presumably attempting to calm her down and argue his pal’s cause.

Fans in the comments section lapped up the chaos, as one user said: “This might have to be one of the best moments in Sunday league history.” A second quipped: “Imagine them in his ear all game, and then the pub after.”

A third poked fun, saying: “She looked at his var.” While a fourth joked: “‘Ref REF! we need to use another sub, the centre backs just had the s*** kicked out of him by his missus as he was literally playing away’”.

Another comment recalled one of their own similar stories from Sunday League, but instead it was the referee who had been caught out on that occasion.

They wrote: “I’ve seen a bird storm across playing fields screaming. Lads from both teams asking whose bird this is!!! Only for it to be the refs bird. Bin bag of clothes dumped middle of pitch and everyone around in stitches.”
