Jamie Elliott’s goal breaks Carlton’s hearts as Collingwood complete ANOTHER late comeback
Jamie Elliott broke Carlton’s hearts with a late goal as Collingwood completed a 25-point turnaround to deny their arch-rivals a finals spot in dramatic circumstances.
Needing a win or a draw to play finals footy for the first time in nine years, Carlton looked on the verge of breaking their September hoodoo as they overturned a 19-point gap to lead by 24 points at three quarter time at the MCG.
The Pies, however, roared back into the game and booted the last five goals of the contest, with Elliott kicking the match-winner with less than two minutes on the clock to seal a famous 11.9 (75) to 10.14 (74) win and leave Blues players and fans shattered.
Collingwood’s win is their ninth by nine points or fewer this season and the 11th by two goals or less and earns the Pies a double chance in the finals, while also allowing the Western Bulldogs to leapfrog Carlton into the top-eight.
