Ex-Bayern Munich star dies after struggling horror coaching floor damage

Bayern Munich have confirmed their former player Guo Jiaxuan, 18, has died.

Jiaxuan had been invited to train with Bayern in 2023, and he was part of their World Squad – an international project with the aim of developing players across the globe.

The Chinese defender was playing a friendly in Spain last month when he was struck in the head by the knee of an opposing player. The impact caused an uncommon type of stroke which resulted in a bleed on the brain.

RC Alcobendas, who he had been playing, offered a message of support for Jiaxuan and his family while he was still in Spain.

In a statement, they said: “We want to express our deep concern for the player from the Beijing Football Association delegation who suffered an accident during the friendly match played this morning against our first team.

“We send all our support to him, his family and his team at this difficult time. We sincerely wish you a speedy recovery.”

Jiaxuan fell into a coma and was treated at a local hospital, where his family were informed he had no brain function remaining. His family reportedly refused the doctor’s suggestion to turn off his son’s life support and perform an autopsy.

Instead they sought for him to be repatriated to China for further treatment. He was transferred to a Beijing hospital as his condition deteriorated – and he died one day before his 19th birthday.

A statement from Bayern Munich read: “FC Bayern is mourning the passing of Guo Jiaxuan, the former World Squad player who has died at the age of 18 in his native China.

“He succumbed to the effects of a serious head injury following a tragic accident during a training match in Spain on 6 February. The club’s thoughts are with his family and friends.

“The centre-back was part of the FC Bayern World Squad in 2023, which gives talented players from all over the world the chance to showcase themselves for professional football. Jiaxuan was also part of China’s youth national teams.”

Jiaxuan joined Chinese Super League side Beijing Guoan aged 13 and he turned out for the Chinese national team at U17 level.
