Man ‘carrying weapon’ is shot useless by armed police at Milton Keynes station

A man ‘carrying a firearm’ has been shot dead by armed police at Milton Keynes Central railway station.

Officers were called to the station on Elder Gate following reports of a man carrying a firearm at 12.55pm today.

Thames Valley Police said armed officers responded and challenged the man at the station before shots were fire by police.

Despite attempts to save the man, he was pronounced dead at the scene at 1.44pm.

It is understood that the station has been closed while a cordon is in place and emergency services continue to deal with the incident.

A source near to the station told Metro: ‘I just heard a bang and then the ambulances arrived.

‘The station has been closed for a couple hours now.’

A police spokesperson said: ‘Officers from Thames Valley Police and British Transport Police were called to reports of a man carrying a firearm at Milton Keynes railway station, Elder Gate, Milton Keynes, at 12.55pm today.
