Amsterdam chaos as man engulfed in flames climbs out automobile that exploded into fireball

A flaming man walked around in a confused state before the car he emerged from exploded in chaotic Amsterdam scenes. The disturbing footage starts with the man crawling along the ground beside the blazing car.

Terrified onlookers are heard shouting as the man gets on to his feet and slowly walks around in circles with a hunched back. Police appear to shout at the man to get on the ground as his flaming trousers fall down around his ankles.

The man continues to walk around in a distressed state with his arms across his chest as police sirens are heard. After an excruciating minute, firefighters approach the man with extinguishers and spray the man from head to toe.

The small red hatchback car continues to burn with tall flames growing above as first responders wrap the flaming man in a towel. The terrifying clip ends with firefighters spraying what appears to be the man’s trousers with extinguishers.

Netherlands journalist Marijn Schrijver shared the “shocking images” on X, formerly Twitter. In Dutch translated by X, the newsman wrote: “The man was still in the car at the time of the explosion, says the maker of these images. He climbed out himself.”

At the time of writing, the video clocked up over 20,000 views. It comes just a week after five people were stabbed in an unrelated knife attack in the Dutch capital.

Ambulances, police vehicles and a trauma helicopter descended on Dam Square to treat victims just after 3.30pm on March 27. Local reports indicated that a woman and a girl are among the victims after they were “hit in the back”.

An image of a police officer straddling and handcuffing a suspect has been shared widely on social media as reports indicate an arrested man needed medical treatment before he could be questions. Footage of an air ambulance landing on the historic square also circulated X, formerly Twitter.

A woman and a female child are understood to have been injured after they were “hit in the back”. Footage shared on social media showed multiple emergency service vehicles – including a helicopter – at the scene as first responders treated victims.

One eyewitness reported hearing an “icy scream” before panic broke out as a store employee said that she suddenly heard a lot of shouting and screaming before people started running in the direction of the incident.
