Harrods’ £50 lunch leaves punters divided as man exhibits off four-piece menu

While a food blogger loved his ‘unreal’ Harrods lunch, not everyone was convinced it was worth the price, which cost more than 10 times what a Tesco meal deal would

It’s a given that a Harrods lunch might set you back more than your average supermarket meal deal. However, some food enthusiasts were left gobsmacked when a blogger revealed his £50 lunch from the upscale department store, claiming that he only got four items for the price.

In a viral TikTok video, Carmie Sellitto (@touchdalight) displayed his extravagant £50 Harrods lunch to his 1.1million followers, claiming: “I can’t believe I spent £50 on this.” Carmie didn’t exactly go for the budget options, picking out a luxurious wagyu steak sandwich as part of his lunch.

Despite this, viewers couldn’t hide their astonishment at the cost, even though Carmie admitted some of the grub was among the best he’d ever tasted. Kicking off his video, Carmie said: “Let’s try a £50 lunch from Harrods. The fact that I only got four things and it cost that much is crazy.”

He explained: “Okay, so for my main meal, I’ve got a £28 wagyu steak sandwich. The bottom of the sandwich is quite soggy, but I’m assuming it’s because they warmed it up, so that’s why. So I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt for that.”

The blogger said: “That has to be one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever eaten in my life. I can’t lie to you. It’s honestly unreal. This sandwich is getting a 10 out of 10.” For his drink, Carmie chose a £6 watermelon juice. “Oh, that is the purest watermelon juice ever,” he said. “That’s getting a 9 out of 10.”

His review continued: “I also picked up something I’ve never had before, which is a salad. This is actually two salads in one. I got the artichoke slaw and the potato salad.” Carmie said he’d choose a different dish next time, but he did think the salad was “really good” and rated it 7.5.

He loved his dessert. “This is probably what I’m most excited for,” Carmie told viewers. “It’s this, like, red fruit cheesecake slice. Look how bougie that looks. Guys, it’s so bougie, it even has gold on, also look at that logo on there. Has to be the best cheesecake I’ve ever eaten in my life. This is getting a 9.5 out of 10.”

The video quickly went viral, reports the Mirror. To date, it’s received over 6million views, with lots of comments from foodies eager to debate the cost. On the one hand, some viewers couldn’t get over the price. Someone thought: “£50 is OUTRAGEOUS.” Another comment asked: “What’s in the food? GOLD.”

A viewer added: “Bro a meal deal going from £3 to £3.50 was horrible enough.” A different social media user claimed: “Even at gunpoint, I’d have refused to pay and left the items there. That’s daylight robbery.”

Echoing the sentiment, a commenter thought: “IT SHOULDN’T BE THAT EXPENSIVE.” A similar comment read: “50 QUID FOR 4 THINGS????? THATS MAD.”

However, lots of commenters thought the price was reasonable given the luxury sandwich. One comment said: “It’s wagu steak – of course it’s going to cost! The carvery is a great deal.”

A second agreed: “I’d pay that for that sandwich any day looks unreal,” and a third viewer replied: “The Harrods food hall is always worth every penny.” Another fan wrote: “That sandwich looks amazing!” Someone else replied: “I think it was worth it. That sandwich looked divine and that cheesecake looked scrumptious.”
