Jurgen Klopp’s record is worse than Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s which got him Man Utd sack

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool record so far this season is worse than Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s when he was sacked by Manchester United.

Former United striker Solksjaer was relieved of his managerial duties at Old Trafford in November last year after more than two-and-a-half years in charge following a 4-1 thrashing at Watford. At the time of Solskjaer’s dismissal, the Red Devils were seventh in the Premier League with 17 points to their name after 12 matches.

After 12 matches of this season, Klopp’s Liverpool are ninth in the table with just 16 points following back to back league defeats to Nottingham Forest and Leeds United.

Overall, the Reds have a Premier League record of four wins, four draws and four losses after 12 matches with a goal difference of eight.

Following Solskjaer’s final match as United boss last November, United had won five of 12 in the league, as well as two draws and five losses.

As well as having a worse record than Solskjaer last season, Klopp currently shares an identical record with Roy Hodgson’s Liverpool side after 12 matches of the 2010/11 season.

Hodgson went on to be sacked in January 2011 after just 31 matches in the dugout, with the Reds 10th in the Premier League after losing away to Blackburn Rovers.

Liverpool’s poor form this season has increased the pressure on Klopp, who has now been in charge at Anfield for more than seven years. If he remains in the role until February it will be the longest time he has spent at a club as a manager.

Despite their slow start domestically, though, Liverpool recovered from a matchday one thrashing by Napoli to reach the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Goals from Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez on Tuesday night secured a win over the Italian side at Anfield but were not enough to leapfrog them at the top of the group.

Klopp will hope to take the momentum from the win into the weekend as Liverpool attempt to return to winning ways in the league away to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon.
