Luke Littler’s first request after £500,000 darts windfall revealed – ‘Any likelihood?’
Luke Littler became the youngest PDC World Darts champion of all time in January, and a cheeky request he made straight after his victory has now emerged
Luke Littler cheekily asked for the match board after being crowned the youngest ever PDC World Darts champion.
After losing to Luke Humphries in the 2024 final at just 16 years old, the darts prodigy went a step further this January. He thrashed three-time champion Michael van Gerwen 7-3 in the final, pocketing a cool £500,000 in prize money as well as the prestigious trophy.
Behind-the-scenes footage of Littler’s historic win is featured in a new Netflix documentary series about Barry and Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom sporting empire, which includes the PDC. Following his official press conference, Littler can be heard exclaiming ‘Whoo’ as he exits the table before asking an official: “Any chance of the match board?”
He then departs the scene, presumably in search of what will undoubtedly be the most treasured board of his career. It remains unknown whether Littler managed to secure the board, but the trophy and cash prize definitely made it home with the teenage darts sensation.
Littler, who also clinched the World Matchplay title in July, will have even more cash up for grabs when he defends his title in December, with the top prize soaring to a staggering £1million.
The documentary series that captured Littler’s cheeky request is titled ‘Matchroom: The Greatest Showmen’, and offers viewers an unparalleled look into the Hearns’ dealings and management of their extensive sports portfolio. The sporting empire doesn’t just include darts either; it is the home to boxing and snooker as well.
Katie Taylor, Anthony Joshua, Conor Benn and Ronnie O’Sullivan are among the stars featured in the series on Netflix. The show is produced by Box To Box, the team behind the highly praised F1 programme, Drive To Survive.
Matchroom’s president and founder Barry said: “Sports fans will absolutely love this. For over four decades, Matchroom has proved itself to be one of the true, global British business triumphs.
“But we’re not normal. And for that reason we have always had to stand away from the crowd and defy what is ‘normal’ from a traditional, corporate business sense. “This series shows all of that, and more. It is warts and all – and the story has got a lot of ‘Succession’ in it.
“You’ve got me, the old, grey-haired geezer that started the company [who] is used to getting his own way, and then the young son comes in, who is dynamic, and all the other kids as well, Frank Smith, Matt Porter and Emily Frazer. Do not miss it.”
Matchroom chairman Eddie is in agreement with the ‘Succession’ comparison, as he added: “It’s ‘Succession’ meets ‘Drive to Survive’ as we bring you an unprecedented look at the up-close-and-personal drama from the biggest and best live events on the planet across Boxing, Darts, Snooker and Multi Sports.
“You are seeing the likes of Luke Littler and Ronnie O’Sullivan like never before and what really happened behind-the-scenes at Benn-Eubank Jr, Taylor-Serrano II, and AJ against [Daniel] Dubois.”
Watch ‘Matchroom: The Greatest Showmen’ on Netflix from Wednesday 17th September.
