Beauty queen caught blasting contestants with sick title in new pageant scandal
Miss France descended into chaos after the title was won on Saturday and leaked videos showed one of the contestants hitting out at her fellow competitors, branding them sick names
Scandal has once again struck the beauty pageant world after leaked footage caught a contestant slamming her fellow competitors. The beauty queen could be heard blasting her fellow queens as “grosses putes” which translates to “fat sluts” or “fat slags”, in a shocking move.
The incident errupted just one day after the Miss France beauty pageant which took place on Saturday (December 6). But whilst everything seemed glitzy and glamorous onstage, backstage proved to be a completely different story.
Since then, the beauty pageant star has been forced to make a lengthy apology on her social media. Her competitors have also distanced themselves as those involved are left to face the shock and outrage from fans.
The drama first kicked off following the end of the Miss France beauty pageant, held in Amiens in the north of the country. The pageant was held across the night, with 30 different contestants taking part from across France and its territories, according to 20minutes.
The crown was eventually won by Miss Tahiti, Hinaukopo Devèze, who excelled with the judges based on a number of different competitions. Some of these centred around their heritage, the future, and regional costumes and fashion, with Hinaukopo wowing the judges with her looks.
However, after the 23-year-old had taken the crown, the full results of the judges were revealed, showing who had made it into the top 12 whilst the others remained unplaced. One day after the show, celebrity blogger Aqababe caused havoc after sharing a video from the private account of Miss Aquitaine Aïnhoa Lahitete.
In the video, filmed backstage during the competition, Lahitete launched a barrage of insults at her fellow contestants as she showed just how annoyed she was with the final results. “Sorry, but what is this Top 12?” shee says, “I don’t mean to be a sore loser, but what is this Top 12?”
Next to her, Miss Provence Juliee Zitouni — who also finished outside the top 12, fumed: “Just a bunch of fat sluts!” before blowing a kiss to the camera. Miss Aquitaine then turns the camera back to insist, “Not all of them, but many!”
The video soon went viral, forcing both Miss Provence and Miss Aquitaine to come out with individual apologies as the fallout of the show continues. In a statement released to her Instagram, Miss Provence said that her remarks had been a “mistake”.
She explained: “I used the word ‘sluts’ in a colloquial sense, which, in my way of speaking, simply meant ‘lucky ones’, — it wasn’t an insult. This is not vocabulary that has a place in Miss France, and I fully acknowledge that; I understand that it may be shocking, and I sincerely apologise.”
However, while Miss Provence had apologised properly for her comments, Miss Aquitaine appeared to leave her in the lurch as she said in her own statement that she should never have “approved unacceptable remarks” made by her co-star. She said that she would refuse to endorse the comments, as they did not align with her moral values.
“I take full responsibility for what happened,” she said. “I deeply regret having reacted this way and not having immediately condemned these remarks.”
