Teaching assistant banned from school rooms after telling pupils he had shot lifeless over 250 individuals as a navy sniper codenamed Kill Switch and nonetheless had his gun at house

A teaching assistant who allegedly told pupils he had shot dead over 250 people as a military sniper and had his gun at home has been banned from schools for two years.

A professional standards hearing heard that Scott John Trigg-Turner, 44, who wasn’t present or represented at the hearing, told students at Bassaleg School in Newport, South Wales, that he served in the US marines under the codename ‘Kill Switch’.

The Education Workforce Council (EWC) Wales panel was told wheelchair user Mr Trigg-Turner also claimed to be a lord, had been awarded an MBE and served in Northern Ireland during the Troubles, despite being too young to do so.

The EWC panel ruled that such instances of lying were evidence of attitudinal problems.

They were told, he regularly arrived late and left class early without agreement on several occasions and confused colleagues with his varying explanations as to how he came to be a wheelchair user.

Concerns around Mr Trigg-Turner’s behaviour were first raised after support assistant Sharon Davies said she had become suspicious about the teaching assistant after hearing the stories he told year eight pupils in 2023, including claims of killing ‘in excess of 250 people.’

Mr Trigg-Turner denied being unprofessional and had told investigators his words were ‘misinterpreted.’

He said he had ‘been diligent in my transparency in all interactions with pupils. I have never crossed professional boundaries and would never do so.’

He added: ‘I feel targeted and singled out. It is not fair.’

Sharon Davies, a learning support assistant at the school, said Trigg-Turner also claimed to be a peer, to have been to the Paralympics, to have an MBE, and to have shaken hands with the King.

A prominent Wales international wheelchair rugby player for the Wigan Warriors wheelchair rugby league team, Mr Trigg-Turner said he had been given an electric scooter while serving in the military.

The hearing was told Mr Trigg-Turner denied having a gun in his house or saying that he did after being investigated by the Bassaleg School.

He said talk of the military, was in reference to family members, and that his comments to the class had been misinterpreted.

Helen Beard-Robbins, the panel chairman, said his lapses were ‘sustained and deliberate.’

‘There is evidence of deep-seated attitudinal problems given the lies Trigg-Turner told pupils, colleagues, and his line manager,’ she said.

Mr Trigg-Turner was struck off the EWC register in the categories of learning support worker in schools and further education colleges.

The panel ruled Mr Trigg-Turner may not apply to be reinstated for two years.

The Daily Mail has reached out to the Bassaleg School for comment.
