At least 10 feared useless ‘together with minors’ as two gunmen open hearth at Bondi Beach Jewish competition

At least 10 people are feared to have been shot dead after gunmen opened fire at a Hanukkah event on Sydney’s iconic Bondi Beach.

Two gunmen were seen in sickening social media footage firing more than 50 bullets into a crowd of worshippers gathered on the beach at around 6.40pm local time.

Cops have not yet confirmed the total number of victims, though unconfirmed reports say 10 people were killed, according to News.com.au.

Children and a police officer are said to be among the fatalities, the Australia news outlet reported.

New South Wales Police said two people were arrested in connection with the horror. A gun was also recovered from the scene.

Shocking social media footage shows beachgoers fleeing for their lives. Police told people to avoid the area and take shelter as they battled to get a grip on the situation.

The force confirmed there are “multiple fatalities” following the shooting. It has not provided an update about how many people have died.

Police say two shooters have been “neutralised”, while there is an active police scene to clear the area of suspected improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

Two police officers are reportedly injured, although the severity of their injuries is unknown. Police also said it is not known at this stage if the incident is connected to the Hanukkah event taking place on the beach.

A huge emergency service operation was scrambled after calls were made at 6.45pm of of multiple people shot at Bondi beach.

A NSW Ambulance spokesperson said: “We responded with more than 26 resources, including medical teams by helicopter and roads intensive care paramedics and special operations paramedics.

“Currently (we are) treating multiple patients at the scene (and) we’ve already transported four to St Vincent’s hospital, one to RPA, one to St George.”

Footage from the scene appeared to show two people dressed in black firing near the beach.

Large crowds had gathered at the beauty spot on Sunday night for a festival celebrating the Jewish holiday Hanukkah.

A social media post previously advertised a Chanukah by the sea event to be held at the Bondi Beach playground. It had been billed as a “night of family fun.”
