Mikel Arteta labelled Arsenal’s season a ‘disaster’ after the Gunners surrendered their Champions League spot to north London rivals Tottenham.
Arsenal looked to be in the driving seat for a spot in Europe’s top competition last term, but after they imploded at home to Brighton, Spurs moved above them. And in Arsenal’s All or Nothing documentary on Amazon Prime, footage has been revealed of Arteta berating the squad.
The Spaniard said: “After the game, I didn’t want to talk to you. I was sure that I was going to say something that I was going to regret.

“But I tell you today – it was a f***ing disaster. I look in your eyes and I tell you that it was a f***ing disaster. It was nowhere near the level that we have to play.
“After losing two games at this club to Crystal Palace and Brighton it has to be a f***ing funeral. A funeral.
“You know why you didn’t win? Because there is something missing. Something missing inside you. When you go out there something is missing. So how do we change it? We change it in training.”

Arsenal went on to lose their following game to Southampton, but after victory against Chelsea a couple of days later, Arteta said: “Good morning guys. The funeral is over! No, you can live your life.”
However, Arsenal ultimately missed out on Champions League football after back-to-back defeats against Tottenham and Newcastle.
