Fans can’t believe Dele Alli’s ‘fall from grace’ as Besiktas close in on Everton flop

Dele Alli looks set to end his Everton nightmare by joining Besiktas – and Premier League fans can’t believe it.

It wasn’t all that long ago that Alli was touted as one of English football’s brightest young talents. A brilliant start to life at Tottenham under Mauricio Pochettino saw him ranked among Europe’s hottest prospects. But for the last couple of seasons, Alli, who is still only 26, has been treading water rather than riding the crest of a wave.

After falling out of favour at Spurs under Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte, Alli was allowed to join Everton in January. Now, just seven months on, he looks set to move on once again, this time to join Besiktas.

That is according to The Athletic, who report that the Turkish club are pushing hard to sign the midfielder from Everton. What happens next is down to Alli, with the decision on his next move entirely up to him.

The fact that the former MK Dons man is even being linked with a move to the Turkish Super Lig, a division renowned for its Premier League also-rans, has sent social media into meltdown.

One person wrote: “Wasted talent.” As someone else commented: “I so wish someone would just sit him down and ask him what the hell happened.”

A third person added: “Most people went ballistic on Mourinho when he criticised Dele Alli he needed to up his game. Look at how downgrading his career has been afterwards.”

A fourth user added: “This is sad I don’t sit in the camp of laughing at him or anything. Had so much potential, no one wins here.” While another person chimed in with: “I don’t think I’ve ever seen this type of downfall.” And another added: “What a fall from grace, such a shame”.

Despite interest from Besiktas, Alli has featured in both of Everton’s Premier League games so far this season. He was on the pitch for 29 minutes against Chelsea on the opening weekend, and followed that up with a nine minute cameo against Aston Villa on Saturday.
