Ryanair flight to Mallorca forced to stop in France after sudden ‘burning smell’

A Ryanair flight has had to land early due to a “technical issue” after passengers could ‘smell burning’.

Holidaymakers who set off from Newcastle Airport for Palma, Mallorca have found themselves grounded in France and surrounded by fire engines, ChronicleLive reports.

Flight FR2347 departed Tyneside at around 8.50am on Tuesday and was flying near Toulouse when it is understood passengers complained of a worrying smell.

Those onboard had expected to set foot on the sunny Spanish island at around 12:35pm this afternoon but were alarmingly held up almost half way into the journey at Toulouse-Blagnac Airport.

Snaps from the plane show a fire engine parked up on the tarmac.

It has been reported passengers were initially told to stay seated on board, including being unable to use the toilet. However, this has now been relaxed.

A Ryanair spokesman said: “This flight from Newcastle to Palma (16 Aug) diverted to Toulouse due to a minor technical issue with the aircraft. To minimise disruption to passengers, we have arranged for an alternative aircraft to bring them to Palma later today.

“Affected passengers have been notified and provided with refreshment vouchers.

“Ryanair sincerely apologises to all affected passengers.”
