A woman has shown what Barbie would look like if she had acne, as well as “normalising normal” skin and common conditions.
The Instagram influencer, who documents her acne journey online, often shares the reality behind airbrushed social media snaps.
Maia Gray, from London, spent years covering her face with makeup as she was bullied in school due to her image.

Now, aged 27, she has learnt to love the skin she’s in and she regularly shares natural, unedited snaps to show other people with skin conditions that they are not alone.
In a recent post she did something a little different – and stepped away from sharing snaps of herself.
She shared a picture of what Barbie would look like with acne in a bid to show that skin conditions need to be “represented on dolls.”
Maia created a short clip which showed what the popular doll would look like if she had blemishes on her skin.
She made the video to highlight the idea that young girls would “feel less alone” if dolls were made to look more inclusive, and less “picture perfect.”
The defiant post works to promote body positivity and helps to show that it’s “normal” to have imperfect skin.
Writing on Instagram, Maia said: “This is what Barbie would look like if she had acne.
“I truly think it’s time for acne representation on dolls.
“It would mean that more skin conditions would be normalised and children would feel less alone.
“It’s time to normalise NORMAL.”
Since Maia shared the post more than 3,000 have liked it.
Dozens of people also commented on the clip saying since they showed the video to their children, they have asked if they can have the Barbie.
One person said: “Yes please. We need such Barbies.”
A second commented: “All I can hear is ‘I’m acne Barbie’, and I’m totally here for it. I have had acne for seven years.”
Meanwhile, a third added: “Love this. Self esteem issues can start at a young age.”
