Teacher, 28, to face trial for allegedly ‘having sex with 15-year-old pupil’

A teacher is facing trial after being charged with two counts of sexual activity with a child.

Rebecca Joynes, 28, appeared at Manchester Crown Court today after she was accused of having sex with a 15-year-old boy, confirming her name and not guilty pleas to both charges but not saying anything else.

The charges both relate to alleged incidents that date back to October 2021.

Joynes allegedly “intentionally touched” the boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, “not reasonably believing he was 16 or over”.

The Salford woman has been granted bail on condition she doesn’t contact any prosecution witnesses.

She is also forbidden from unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 18.

Her trial, which has been set for May, is expected to last four days, while two further hearings are expected in October, Judge Rachel Smith told the defendant.

School officials were present at the initial hearing, watching proceedings from the public gallery, where the defendant was seen wearing a beige jacket, white top and black trousers.
