Who is Lady Louise Windsor? Part-time job, university place and line of succession

The Royal Family is vast and it can be hard to keep up with all of the various family members of the Queen, but one young royal is rising to prominence.

While Kate and William‘s children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, are often the centre of the public’s attention, young royal Lady Louise Windsor has recently been stepping into the spotlight.

The 18-year-old made several appearances during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, including riding in a carriage during Trooping the Colour, attending the Service of Thanksgiving for the Queen and attending the Platinum Party at the Palace.

She was also recently seen attending the 2022 Commonwealth Games alongside her family.

Now, she’s been gaining some attention for taking on an unusual part-time job and getting into a prestigious university.

Lady Louise Windsor is the granddaughter of the Queen and she is the eldest child of the Queen’s son, Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex.

She is now 18 years old and was born a month prematurely in November 2003.

Louise was also born with esotropia, a condition that turns the eyes outwards, and had troubles with her vision growing up.

However, after undergoing multiple procedures she can now see perfectly.

Lady Louise isn’t just the youngest granddaughter of the Queen, she’s also reported to be the monarch’s favourite grandchild.

In 2019 a royal insider told The Sun: “The Queen loves the fact that Louise and James relish their time at Balmoral, and she has become particularly close to Louise, who seems to have become her favourite grandchild, closely followed by James.”

Like the other royals, Lady Louise’s family has a substantial amount of wealth and lives in a £30million mansion in Surrey.

But despite this, Louise has apparently been working a part-time job during the summer as she prepares for university.

It’s been reported that the young royal has been earning £6.83 per hour at a garden centre and is said to have been greeting customers, working on the tills and potting and pruning plants.

According to The Sun, one shopper said: “I knew the cost-of-living crisis was bad, but I didn’t think I’d ever see a grandchild of the Queen working in a garden centre.”

While another customer added: “The staff seemed to adore her. It’s not every day you buy your begonias off a royal.”

Lady Louise received her A-level results on August 18 and her successful grades earned her a place at University of St Andrews.

The young Windsor will be studying English and is due to start her degree in September.

She’ll be following in the footsteps of some other royals, as St Andrews is famously where Prince William and Kate Middleton studied and met.

The university is prestigious and has standard entry grades of AAAAB for its highly competitive English course.

Lady Louise Windsor is currently 16th in line to the British throne.

She is behind Viscount Severn in the line of succession, who is her younger brother James.

Despite being four years older than James, Lady Louise is behind him in the line of succession because of an outdated law which meant that the male heir in the royal family was placed ahead of their sister, even if they were younger.

When Princess Charlotte was born, this law was changed by the 2013 Succession of the Crown Act.

However, the Act doesn’t apply for those born before it was enacted so Lady Louise is still behind her younger brother.
