Prince George’s billionaire godfather who owns 1,500 buildings across the world

When the list of Prince George‘s godparents was announced, one name generated the most excitement.

Most of the line-up consisted of friends of Kate Middleton and Prince William such as Oliver Baker, Emilia Jardine-Paterson, Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, Julia Samuel, William Van-Cutsem and Zara Tindall.

Hugh Richard Louis Grosvenor, then Earl Grosvenor but now the Duke of Westminster, also made the list. He is ranked as one of the richest people on the planet and owns large swathes of London.

Hugh was born in London on January 29, 1991 to the late Gerald Grosvenor, 6th Duke of Westminster and his wife Natalia. He was the third of their four children, reports the Mirror.

Hugh and his siblings were educated at a state primary school and then went on to study at the private Mostyn House School in Cheshire.

He continued his education at Ellesmere College and then earned a degree in countryside management from Newcastle University.

After a few years of working for various estate management companies, Hugh succeeded his father and became the 7th Duke of Westminster when the former Duke sadly died from a heart attack aged 64.

He inherited an estimated wealth of £9billion and gained several new estates.

He is also known by the titles of Marquess of Westminster, Earl Grosvenor, Viscount Belgrave and Baron Grosvenor, and became head of The Grosvenor Group upon his father’s death.

That means he now owns several huge areas of London, as well as land and over 1,500 buildings across the world.

In London, the group owns Park Lane, half of Mayfair and 300 acres of Belgravia.

The family’s estates also include Eaton Hall in Cheshire and the Abbeystead Estate in Lancashire, as well as homes in Scotland and Spain.

Some of the most notable buildings owned by the group include the Liverpool One shopping centre, a residential tower in Tokyo, a large chunk of Silicon Valley in California and Annacis Island near Vancouver.
