Brisbane driver accused of leaving couple sprawled on the road in Wynnum

Police are searching for a rideshare driver as he’s accused leaving a couple seriously injured on the road before speeding off in a horror incident.

Queensland Police confirmed it was searching for the owner of a black 2018 Nissan X-Trail with Queensland registration SA4B1.

The shocking hit and run happened at around 11pm on Friday night in Bay Terrace in the Brisbane suburb of Wynnum.

Vision of the incident showed a 39-year-old woman and 27-year-old man sprawled on the ground in agony and unable to move after being hit by a car reported to be an Uber.

They were taken to hospital in a serious condition.

Witnesses watched and filmed as the driver briefly got out of the car.

He was spotted before quickly going back to the car and fleing the scene.

The witnesses tried to stop him by standing in the path of the car, but he drove off, narrowly avoiding hitting the helpless victims a second time.

A third pedestrian who was with the injured pair at the time managed to avoid being hit and called for help.

He can be heard in the video shouting to a witness that ‘an Uber driver just hit us’ at ‘full speed’.

A witness to the incident told Nine News there were ‘people lying on the ground here … it was carnage.’

Police said the hit and run driver abandoned the car a short time after speeding away from the scene.

Police are appealing for the person responsible to turn themselves in, and for anyone with any dash cam or CCTV to contact them.

Witnesses tried to prevent the car from leaving the scene, but it sped off and was later found abandoned
