Dana White wants to host a trilogy fight between Leon Edwards and Kamaru Usman at WEMBLEY

Dana White says the UFC are planning on holding a trilogy fight between Leon Edwards and Kamaru Usman at Wembley Stadium.

Edwards was victorious at UFC 278, where they faced off for the second-time, delivering a brutal head-kick just a minute before the end of the bout to claim the UFC welterweight title.

And after claiming that Usman ‘fought a perfect fight’, White has now insisted that he wants their third encounter to take place in England’s biggest stadium.

The UFC President confirmed in his press conference that the company were thinking of hosting the bout in England – with Wembley being a likely destination.

White has held more of an interest in hosting bouts in the UK recently, with two Fight Night events being hosted at the O2 Arena earlier this year.

Lightweight star, and Liverpool fan, Paddy Pimblett suggested last year that he wants to have a UFC event at Anfield stadium – but Wembley would be a considerable step-up.

It’d be the third match-up between the two fighters after Usman won their first encounter by unanimous decision back in 2015.

Wembley was recently the location that England’s Lionesses made football history

White also spoke about the performances of both main event fighters and suggested that the ‘Nigerian Nightmare’ fought a perfect fight, despite losing.

White said: I thought that Usman fought the perfect fight. It’s crazy, I was listening to the commentary of Joe Rogan, Jon Anik and Daniel Cormier, and they were spot on in everything they were saying about what Leon needed to do. And as soon as they were saying it, he literally lands the head-kick.

‘Usman fought with absolute and total confidence all night. He fought the perfect fight, it might not be the most fan-friendly style but… He was landing big shots to the body, big shots the head, elbows – he couldn’t have fought a more perfect fight.

‘There are no lopsided, one-sided, fights in this sport. The problem with this fight was, people wouldn’t give Leon enough credit. He’s a very dangerous opponent.’

Jamaican-born Edwards was a huge underdog coming into the fight – especially having lost the first encounter between the two fighters.

In 2015, Usman dominated Edwards with a masterful display of wrestling expertise to earn himself a unanimous decision victory over the Brit.

But seven years on, Edwards has finally redeemed himself in the best way possible – getting his hands on a UFC title belt.
