Harry and Meghan ‘competing with royal family’ by announcing UK visit on Anne’s birthday

Just months after they crossed the pond for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, Harry and Meghan announced on Monday (August 15) a second visit to the UK in September.

Among other events for charities “close to their hearts”, the couple plan to attend the One Young World Summit in Manchester on September 5, where young leaders from around the world come together.

But despite the noble reason for their visit, a royal expert has slammed the announcement – saying that senior royals were “likely not thrilled” by the announcement.

Kinsey Schofield said that the pair’s decision to cross the Atlantic was made worse by the fact that they announced it on Princess Anne’s birthday.

The To Di For podcast host said: “Prince Charles is looking to slim down the monarchy… not add a competing Royal Family.

“Senior royals are likely not thrilled with [Monday’s] announcement.

“Especially since they chose to do it on the Princess Royal’s birthday.”

Princess Anne, Prince Charles’ sister, celebrated her 72nd birthday on August 15 – with Her Majesty the Queen leading online tributes to her daughter on her special day.

Other royals followed suit – the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge posted a message on Twitter which read: “Wishing a very happy birthday to The Princess Royal today!”

The last time the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were in the UK was in June for the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations, where the couple took a back seat to senior working royals.

This time they are expected to visit Manchester, London, and Dusseldorf in Germany.

But despite their trip to the capital, Schofield doesn’t think they’ll spend much time with their royal relatives.

“I think the only member of the Royal Family that might attempt to see the Sussexes is the Queen,” the podcast host said.

“However, this does feel like a carbon copy of a royal engagement, and I don’t believe that she would encourage that.”
