Leeds United have booked their spot in the Carabao Cup third round after beating Championship side Barnsley 3-1 at Elland Road on Wednesday night.
It was a solid start for the Whites on the night which saw new summer signing Luis Sinisterra break the deadlock with a superb goal from outside the box in the 21st minute, before Mateusz Klich doubled the lead 11 minutes later from the penalty spot.
However, it didn’t take long for Barnsley to respond through Mads Juel Andersen, with the defender halving the deficit three minutes after Leeds’ second. And it could’ve been 2-2 just before half-time but the visitors missed a spot-kick of their own to make sure Leeds went into the break with the lead.
Styles’ missed spot-kick came back to bite Barnsley which saw Klich grab his second – and Leeds’ third – goal of the game just before the 60-minute mark.
