No. 2 NBA draft pick Chet Holmgren facing spell on the sidelines amid fears he has ‘torn ligaments’

Rookie Oklahoma City Thunder big man Chet Holmgren has potential torn ligaments in his foot, exams have shown.

Holmgren was selected with the second overall pick in June’s NBA draft after an impressive one-and-done season at Gonzaga.

The news of the injury concern was first reported by The Athletic’s Shams Charania, who said a timetable ‘is being determined based on further evaluations.’

Holmgren was slated to join a promising young core of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Josh Giddey and Lu Dort during his rookie season with the team.

Chet Holmgren was impressed in the Summer League for the Thunder

The seven-footer averaged 14.1 points and 9.9 rebounds on 39 percent from three-point range with the Zags.

Holmgren later impressed in five games of summer league action with OKC, averaging 14.0 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists.

The Thunder will play the Minnesota Timberwolves on October 19 to begin their season.
