Port Melbourne Beach horror as body of woman found

A body of a woman has been pulled from the water at a popular beach in Melbourne.

A walker discovered the lifeless body floating along Port Melbourne Beach at 9.20am on Sunday.

Emergency services were called to the scene and were assisted by Water Police to retrieve the body from the water.

An officer was spotted pulling the woman onto the sand before a blue tarp was placed over her body. 

The body is understood to have been found near the Port Melbourne Yacht Club and Station Pier. 

Police cordoned off the beach with tape as bystanders looked on in horror from the sidewalk.

Victoria Police told Daily Mail Australia an investigation is underway.

‘Circumstances surrounding the woman’s death are under investigation,’ it said.

The family of the woman have yet to be notified of her death.
