Millions of people have been left unable to access their Twitter accounts after the social media platform went down this evening.

The site’s engineers are currently working to fix the problem, it is understood. 

The website is inaccessible in parts of the UK, US and other countries.

It appears the platform is still working on mobile phones, allowing users to tweet about the problem.

Outages were reported in Manchester, Birmingham and London by site Downdetector, which monitors services on websites.
