Chelsea owner Todd Boehly likes tweet about Mason Mount’s contract situation

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has dropped a major hint about Mason Mount’s future after liking a tweet about the midfielder’s contract situation at Stamford Bridge.

Mount’s current deal with the Blues still has two years left to run before it expires in the summer of 2024. But with Boehly working his way through a series of contract extensions, attention has turned to Mount’s future.

Defender Reece James became the latest star to pen a mega-money new deal on Monday, following in the footsteps of club captain Cesar Azpilicueta and fellow youngster Armando Broja. But now it seems a new contract for Mount might not be too far away after Boehly dropped a huge hint on social media.

Whether by accident or on purpose, the American billionaire has liked a two-month old tweet from renowned transfer guru Fabrizio Romano referencing Mount’s contract situation.

The tweet read: “Next Chelsea player to discuss new deal will be Mason Mount. Talks are already in place since long time and he’s waiting for the club to send new, final proposal. Negotiations will continue soon.”

While Mount may have been the next player to discuss a new deal at that particular time, several others have since extended their stays at Stamford Bridge ahead of him. However, it now appears that could soon be rectified.

Mount certainly appears happy in west London, having come through the club’s youth system to make his Premier League debut in 2019. He reaffirmed that belief in an interview with The Athletic in July.

He said: “I’ve got two years left on my contract and I’m very, very happy here. Those [contract] talks will hopefully be starting soon.”

The 23-year-old has made 166 appearances for the Blues, scoring 30 goals and contributing 31 assists. However, this season has been more of a struggle for Mount – and Chelsea – so far, with the midfielder yet to register or a goal or assist this term.
