Olympic bronze medallist boxer and current All Elite Wrestling star Anthony Ogogo has recalled ‘flirting’ with the Queen and telling her she was his ‘favourite Bond girl’ when he met her at Buckingham Palace following the 2012 London Olympics.
Ogogo won his bronze medal at those games and was among the Olympic and Paralympic medallists invited to meet the Queen later that year. Reflecting on the meeting, Ogogo wrote on Twitter: “Can you really say you’ve ‘met’ Queen Elizabeth II if you didn’t have a little flirt.
“She was a great sport. I’ve never been so nervous in the few moments between me flirting and her chuckling.”

He also posted a clip of him speaking to RNIB Radio about the meeting, where he recalls: “When I actually met The Queen I was everything but speechless. I just kept talking and talking and talking, really uncomfortably.
“It was an amazing day and something that I’m going to cherish for the rest of my life. Apparently I told her that she was my favourite Bond girl.
“Because if you remember, at the Olympics opening ceremony she did a little skit with Daniel Craig, which everyone loved. So I told her that it was a tie between her and Halle Berry, but she just pipped Halle Berry to the post.
“Then I got really nervous and she chuckled and she laughed and she said something like ‘It’s good to know that I’ve still got it’ or something really funny that you wouldn’t expect from Her Majesty The Queen.”
Following the Queen’s death, Ogogo tweeted: “My Queen 1926-2022. They just don’t make them like this anymore.
“It’s now time for you to finally rest. Thank you”.
