Prince Harry ‘feared becoming irrelevant after Prince George turned 18’, claims new book

Prince Harry feared he “would become irrelevant” when Prince George turned 18, according to an upcoming book.

Prior to the birth of Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s oldest son, Harry was behind his brother in the royal line of succession.

Now George, nine, Princess Charlotte, seven, and Prince George, four, are ahead of him.

Given their proximity to the throne, when the Wales children grow up they’ll be expected to carry out a vast proportion of royal duties.

According to royal author Valentine Low, there was a period when Harry feared “his time was running out” to make use of his platform before George came of age.

Low quotes a royal source saying as such in his upcoming book Courtiers: the Hidden Power Behind the Crown, set to be released on October 6 and serialised in The Times.

The source told Low: “He [Harry] had this thing that he had a shelf life. He was fixated [on] this. He would compare himself with his uncle [Prince Andrew].

“He would say, ‘I have this time to make this impact. Because I can.’ Until George turns 18, was the way he was thinking about it. ‘Then I will be the also-ran.’

“He was genuinely thinking of it as, ‘I have this platform now, for a limited amount of time. I want to move forward, move forward.’”

According to Low, royal staff assured Harry that he was “very different” to his uncle Andrew, insisting that he could “still have an impact” in his forties and fifties.

Harry reportedly failed to see that.

Low’s upcoming book is described as a “gripping account of how the Royal family really operates” asking “who really runs the show and, as Charles III begins his reign, what will happen next?”.
