Ryanair passengers terrified after large fight breaks out on flight causing diversion

Passengers of a Ryanair flight were left terrified after a fight broke out on board, causing a diversion from the initial holiday destination.

The flight, which was set to travel to Tenerife from Manchester, was reportedly forced to divert to the Portuguese island of Porto Santo.

A disruption and fight onboard meant that “distraught” passengers were instead taken to Portugal, missing out on the Spanish island they were initially heading for after a “drunken” man “urinated” on a seat.

The disastrous flight appears to have rattled those on board after the alleged urinator and several other passengers were removed from the plane after becoming “disruptive”.

One passenger who wished to remain anonymous spoke of the horrifying flight and told LiverpoolEcho that one passenger looked “rotten” drunk and was asked repeatedly to sit down by cabin crew.

It was by that point though that the pilot made the decision to divert the flight.

Another passenger, who also wished to remain anonymous, said: “It was distressing. I had my nine-week old daughter with me. The air crew weren’t to blame, they just couldn’t control them. Everyone was getting upset about it.

“I was with my partner and her family and my partner was very upset and became emotional, so did her sister. This was her very first flight and she was quite distraught.”

As a result of the diversion, the family had to fork out £73 for a late check-in fee at their hotel and missed out on several hours of their holidaying experience.

The passenger added: “It was a massive inconvenience and not an enjoyable experience. We had the hotel saying we would be checking in too late.”

Local police at Porto Santo removed the rowdy passengers before the flight made its way over to Tenerife, but passengers said that the removed men were intimidating.

An argument had broken out between the male passenger and female passenger when both became “rowdy and disruptive”.

The anonymous passenger added that the female “punched” another passenger and had to be “restrained” in her seat while a man “urinated” before a fight broke out.

It forced the unnamed passenger to take action and “try to break it up”, with the dad adding: “I informed the crew about the female who was also being aggressive.

“Airports should stop serving alcohol, these people were chanting at the gates, being very loud and pushing their way through. It should be banned really, but more importantly there needs to be more vetting or screening at the gates.”

A spokesperson for RyanAir said: “This flight from Manchester to Tenerife (18 Sept) diverted to Porto Santo after a small number of passengers became disruptive inflight.

“The aircraft landed safely, and these passengers were removed from the aircraft by local police before it continued to Tenerife.”
