Shocking moment brazen jewelry store burglar pistol whips and stomps elderly Asian shopkeeper

A Delaware shopkeeper was brutally pistol whipped and stomped on and left bloody and unconscious after a burglary at his jewelry shop.

Chang Suh, 68, was caring for his store – Solid Gold in the Delaware capital of Wilmington – on September 15 when he was attacked during a 20-minute robbery, according to ABC6

Video footage shared by his family showed a man dressed in all black with a mask faking interest in Suh’s wares at the store.

He then grabs Suh by the throat and looks to be holding a pistol to his head before slamming him with it, with the Korean-American shop owner showing no resistance.

The unidentified attacker hits Suh two more times before the elderly man falls to the floor behind his store’s counter.

The thief then hops the counter and begins to stamp on Suh’s head, yet again with zero resistance.

Steve Suh, the owner’s son, claimed that showing any more than the 36 seconds of footage shared from the 20-minute attack was too traumatic.

The son claims that the attacker ‘beat’ his father’s head 28 times, including twice with a hammer, leaving his father in an ICU in critical condition.

His father is suffering from internal bleeding and a severe concussion, adding that he ‘is relearning how to do the most basic things like walk, read and talk’ and believes anyone his age could’ve easily been killed.

He also said that his dad has delayed speech and is currently rehabbing, according to KGO-TV

Steve Suh claims that the thief stole about $100,000 in jewelry, adding unnecessary damage to his store, which was ‘just scraping by’ during the pandemic and was looted during the George Floyd protests, he claims.

Suh added, ‘My father is 68 and his ‘American Dream’ has come to a crashing halt.’

Wilmington police arrested 39-year-old Calvin Ushery in connection with the assault on September 22.

Ushery has been charged with robbery, possession of a firearm during a robbery, criminal mischief and prohibited possession of a firearm, though he does not appear to have been charged with any assault.

His bail was set cash-only at $130,500 and he was sent to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution.

Steve Suh has raised over $50,000 on Gofundme for his family and the store, but has a goal of $75,000, adding that he believes his father’s case has been ‘swept under the rug.’

When Googling the store, a message pops up, stating, ‘Due to robbery, damages, and critical condition of assaulted owner, the store has no inventory and will be closed until further notice. We apologize for the inconvenience to our loyal long term customers.’
