FPL players in disarray as Mitrovic hobbles off injured for Fulham against Newcastle

Fantasy Premier League players are pulling their hair out in frustration after Fulham star Aleksandr Mitrovic hobbled off injured in the match against Newcastle.

The Serbian – who scored 43 goals in the Championship last season – appeared to pull something during the encounter at Craven Cottage – which is not good news for those who selected the striker as part of their side for the season.

And those online have vented at the news that the 28-year-old had come off with an injury, with some 32.44% of players using the £6.9m-rated striker in the game.

One wrote: “If you didn’t sell Mitrovic this weekend in fpl, you’ll feel the pain.” Another said: “MITROVIC GOT INJURED???? ARE YOU KIDDING ME????? WHAT A SHOCKING WILDCARD THIS IS FFS!!!.”

A third wrote: “Mitrovic fpl troll of the year, injury and yellow card.” Someone stated: “Mitrovic booked and injured. Toney booked. Jesus scoring. Why do we even play #FPL?”

Another joked: “Managers getting 2 points in 2 gameweeks from Mitrovic will switch to Jesus now ahead of his 5th yellow card against Liverpool.”

Meanwhile, pundit Rio Ferdinand tweeted: “What’s ya Fantasy predictions for this weekend?? Mitrović is my ©️this week! @OfficialFPL.”

Fulham manager Marco Silva had hinted that he might play Mitrovic for the forthcoming game against the Magpies despite the player picking up a knock on international duty with Serbia in midweek.

The Portuguese manager said in the pre-match press conference: “ “He doesn’t need that motivation (of playing against his former club), he doesn’t need to play against Newcastle to be motivated.

“Mitrovic is always full of motivation to play with a Fulham Football Club shirt or with his national team, that is the motivation for him, to play football matches, to be involved with his team-mates, to keep playing with his connection with me and my staff as well, that is the motivation for him, he doesn’t need other motivations. After, when he is on the pitch, he is always doing something to help the team to win football matches.”

Newcastle took full advantage of their former player’s injury – and the sending off for Nathaniel Chalobah in the opening few minutes helped still further.

Callum Wilson’s first-half goal, as well as Miguel Almiron’s brace and Sean Longstaff’s finish, secured Newcastle’s second win of the season, putting them seventh in the Premier League. The Cottagers – who now sit one below – pulled one back through Bobby Reid, but it was the northeast side’s night.
