Chelsea given huge fitness boost with Wesley Fofana’s knee injury not as serious as first feared… £70m star is set to miss four weeks after picking up problem in win over AC Milan
- Wesley Fofana’s midweek knee injury isn’t as serious as first feared by Chelsea
- The French central defender is likely to only be missing for a month with injury
- He’ll miss games against AC Milan, Manchester United and Brentford in October
- Fofana scored the opening in win over Milan but was subbed before half time
Chelsea have been boosted by the news that the injury to Wesley Fofana is not as severe as first feared, and the defender is likely to only be out for a month.
Fofana limped out of the Blues’ 3-0 win over AC Milan on Wednesday evening and left Stamford Bright on crutches, fearing there could be a long lay-off for the centre-back.
However, according to The Guardian, a scan has revealed that the 21-year-old hasn’t suffered any serious ligament tear and will now only miss around four weeks of action for Graham Potter‘s side.

The knee injury isn’t as serious as first thought and Fofana should be back in action next month
The Frenchman will miss Wolves’ visit to west London on Saturday as well as the return game with Milan next week. Chelsea’s busy October also includes clashes with Aston Villa, Brentford, Manchester United and Brighton before the end of the month.
The Champions League Group game against RB Salzburg on 24 October could also come too early for Fofana, with a more likely target being the capital clash with Arsenal at the start of November.
That time frame means the £69.5m summer signing would still return before next month’s World Cup, but he would be in a race against time to clock up enough minutes to book his place in Didier Deschamps French squad.

Fofana scored the opening goal – his first for the club – in Chelsea’s midweek victory of the Serie A champions, but left the field just before the break clutching his knee and was replaced by Trevor Chalobah.
The win meant Potter has now racked-up back-to-back victories for the first time since replacing Thomas Tuchel last month.
Chelsea are second in Champions League Group E, a point behind RB Salzburg, while return to Premier League action tomorrow eight points behind leaders Arsenal having played a game less than the Gunners.
