FOUR state schools are in top 10 for pupils getting offers from Oxbridge – and all of them do better than Eton

- School in one of UK’s poorest boroughs could top table next year with 89 offers
Four state schools are in the top 10 for Oxbridge offers – with the institution that is traditionally a favourite for the prestigious universities, public school Eton, trailing behind them in ninth place.
Oxford and Cambridge Universities are increasingly snubbing the exclusive boys’ college while top-performing state schools are experiencing strong success rates.
Four high-performing state schools came in at third, fourth, fifth and seventh place in the rankings.
Meanwhile, Eton College, one of the world’s most expensive and prestigious schools which charges students £46,296-a-year to attend, has slipped down from third to ninth in the league table.
The schools with the highest success rates for applicants, revealed in analysis by The Telegraph of 2021 Oxbridge offers, are listed here.
1. Westminster School – Independent school
London private school, Westminster, which frequently tops the table, came out on top again with a total of 79 offers having been received by students at the £32,247-a-year institution.
The almost 500-year-old school was established within the walls of Westminster Abbey and is all-boys up until sixth form.

2. Raffles Junior College – International school, fee-paying
Singapore International school, Raffles Junior College, went up two places in the rankings from last year, with a total of 77 offers.
Raffles was founded in 1823 and claims to be the oldest school in Singapore.

3. Hills Road Sixth Form College – State school
Hills Road Sixth Form College was the highest-performing state school, coming in at number three with 69 Oxbridge offers and a 23 per cent success rate.
The college, located in Cambridge, is a selective state school which requires students get a minimum grade of 6 in each of their GCSEs if they wish to study a subject, or 4 in some circumstances.
It fell slightly in the rankings for 2020, when it came in at second with 75 offers.

4. Peter Symonds College – State school
Among other top state schools and sixth forms was Peter Symonds College, which came in at fourth in the league – up from sixth place last year.
Located in Hampshire, students at the co-educational Peter Symonds College received an impressive 56 offers for Oxford and Cambridge, with a 26.9 per cent success rate.
The college is free for day pupils but, as the country’s largest college to offer a boarding option, charges between £15,990 and £17,220 a year for 79 pupils.
It puts its success down to a ‘brilliant mix of motivated students, dedicated staff and fantastic facilities’.

5. Brampton Manor Academy – State school
In fifth place, Brampton Manor Academy is a selective sixth form in Newham, east London – one of the country’s poorest boroughs.
Brampton is set to climb even further up the rankings next year after students received an outstanding 89 Oxbridge offers before taking their A Levels this year.
The school day at the academy starts at 8.15am, with sixth-formers encouraged to work in the study centre from 6am.
Since it opened a decade ago, Brampton has seen over 200 students head to Oxford and Cambridge – with the latest cohort taking that figure to nearer 300.

6. Hwa Chong Institution – International School, fee-paying
The Hwa Chong Institution, which was originally set up in 1919 for Singapore’s Chinese community, went up one spot from last year with 53 offers and a 26.8 per cent rate.
It aims to produce ‘scholars and world champions’ who ‘achieve their potential and live their aspirations’.

7. Brighton Hove and Sussex Sixth Form College – State school
At number seven, Brighton Hove and Sussex Sixth Form College (BHASVIC) received a total of 52 Oxbridge offers.
The school’s principal, William Baldwin, said after students received offers last year last year: ‘For a non-selective state-funded sixth form college to be consistently getting over 50 offers a year for students to study at Oxford or Cambridge is truly remarkable.’

8. The Perse School – Independent school
A total of 48 offers were made to students at The Perse School in Cambridge, which rose up to number eight from thirteenth last year.
Fees at the upper school are £19,443-a-year and it takes boys and girls from age three to 18.

9. Eton College – Independent school
Etonians received a total of 47 offers for Oxbridge in 2021, down from 68 in 2020, and with a success rate of 24.2 per cent of applications.
A total of twenty Prime Ministers attended the exclusive boarding school, including Boris Johnson and David Cameron before they went on to study at Oxford.
There has been a year-on-year decline in the number of offers received by students at the all-boys independent school, located in Windsor.

10. St Paul’s Girls’ School – Independent school
St Paul’s Girls’ School completed the top ten with 46 offers and a 46.9 per cent success rate for applicants.
The selective West London independent charges a yearly fee of £27,792-a-year and was The Sunday Times Independent Secondary School for 2022.
