Voice of the Mirror: Boris Johnson was ousted for good reason and is still not fit to govern

Still not fit to govern

That the Tories are even thinking of re-installing Boris Johnson as leader tells you how far removed the party has become from reality.

The failed Prime Minister was ousted earlier this year – by them – for good reason.

He had brought disgrace on his office through his immoral behaviour and inability to speak the truth. He was not fit to govern then and he is not fit to govern now.

To bring him back would be an insult to all the families who mourned loved ones while he was busy partying in Downing Street.

While Johnson remains the subject of a parliamentary inquiry into his alleged dishonesty he should be disbarred from holding any Cabinet role, let alone that of Prime Minister.

After the catastrophic premiership of Liz Truss, the country desperately needs a leader who can provide stability and confidence. Mr Johnson would only bring further disarray.

The Tories are also quick to wrap themselves in the Union Jack. Now it is time they did their patriotic duty by making sure Johnson is nowhere near the ballot paper.

Out of focus

The focus of the Government should be on helping people through the cost of living crisis and bolstering the NHS.

Instead the Conservatives are indulging in yet another leadership contest.

If they had any decency, they would pause for a few minutes to consider how their actions look to the family of an elderly patient who died this week in the back of an ambulance because there was a shortage of hospital beds.

This was not an isolated incident.

At a time when the NHS urgently needs support, the Tories are once again only looking out for themselves.

The young calf is part of a herd in the woods of Kent. Her surprise arrival is a Canterbury tale the rangers will tell for years.
