Tottenham told they can ‘win the Premier League’ by signing Chelsea flop in January

Tottenham Hotspur have been told they can ‘win the Premier League‘ by signing Chelsea flop Hakim Ziyech in January.

The Moroccan playmaker signed for the Blues two years ago from Ajax for a hefty £36million fee. But the 29-year-old has struggled to adapt to the pace and physicality of English football while being unable to stake a regular claim in the starting XI.

Ziyech has featured just four times in the league this season and looks increasingly likely to depart in the upcoming transfer windows. That has prompted Spurs hero Rafael van der Vaart, also a former Ajax player, to urge him to join London rivals Spurs.

He told Ziggo Sport: “Hakim Ziyech has to join Tottenham. If Tottenham get Hakim Ziyech, they could win the Premier League. I am serious.”

Tottenham are currently managed by former Blues head coach Antonio Conte, whose side have lacked creativity all season. They would no doubt benefit from the 2019/20 version of Ziyech, who registered nine goals and 20 assists for Ajax across all competitions.

But there is no guarantee that his controversial persona will be a good fit with Conte’s notoriously gritty coaching style and tactics. With Spurs also in third place and having played an extra match over Arsenal and Manchester City, Van der Vaart’s shout could be deemed a rogue one.

Rafael van der Vaart believes the midfielder will make Spurs title contenders

Ziyech has also failed to make an impression under either of Frank Lampard’s two successors at Chelsea since he was personally sought by the legendary former midfielder. He has just 14 goals and 10 assists to his name in almost 100 appearances for the west Londoners.

That is a far cry from the midfielder who starred in 2019 as Ajax reached the semi-finals of the Champions League. Yet that could allow Spurs, if interested, to sign him for a fraction of the fee that Chelsea paid in 2020.
