Arsenal fans have admitted they are thoroughly enjoying keeping Tony Adams’ ballroom dream alive by constantly voting for him to remain in the competition.
The Gunners legend, 56, may have enjoyed a glittering career at Highbury claiming four top-flight crowns, three FA Cups and the European Cup Winners Cup, but Adams’ rigid displays have not smoothed since retirement.
The Strictly Come Dancing contestant, partnered up with Katya for the 2022 competition, has finished bottom of the leaderboard in five of the seven weeks so far, yet the duo have still made it through to week eight unscathed without having to take part in the dreaded dance-off.

Backed by a plethora of jubilant Arsenal supporters, Tony and Katya are now comfortably past the halfway point of the competition, though some fans have called for the ex-England ace to replicate the goodwill broadcaster John Sergeant, who withdrew from the show in 2008 after the public kept voting him through despite a clear lack of talent.
“The trouble is that there is now a real danger that I might win the competition,” said Sergeant following his withdrawal. “Even for me, that would be a joke too far.”
Dancing salsa to a track by Pitbull on Saturday evening, Adams and Katya, scoring a measly 21, were once again voted safely through to next week with Arsenal fans revelling in the disappointment of Strictly regulars.

“Disgraceful,” wrote one outraged Strictly fan. “He was without doubt the worst – who keeps voting for him? About time Tony stood down. He must be aware that he’s probably getting a huge football vote.”
“The worst part is that football fans are not even watching the show,” agreed a disgraced second. “They are just sad enough to log in each week and vote for him without even watching any of it.”
While a third slammed: “Ridiculous! He needs to go! Can’t keep sacrificing good dancers to keep him in! It’s fun for a few weeks but he needs to go!”
However, it seems Arsenal fans will not relent in their quest to gift Adams the glitter ball. “He will lift another trophy,” replied one dedicated Gooner.
“The Arsenal family strikes again. Just so you all know my 3 votes next week are already with Tony and the week after and so on…MY CAPTAIN!” commented a second.
“Arsenal annoying the footballing world Arsenal annoying the Strictly world. It’s absolutely beautiful,” harked a third. A fourth cleverly altered the words to their chant for Mikel Arteta to write: “We’ve got super Tony Adams, he knows exactly what he needs, stepping on the left, moving to the right, Tony on his way to win strictlyyyyyy.”
