Tommy Fury’s team rejected fighter’s offer with four hours notice as it was ‘too tough’

Anthony Taylor has heaped more embarrassment on Tommy Fury following his botched fight with Paul Bamba in Dubai by claiming he offered to step in and face his rival at short notice.

The Love Island star will now take on Rolly Lambert at cruiserweight level, after his clash with Bamba was cancelled after Fury failed to make weight. The younger brother of Tyson hit the scales 6lbs over the light-heavyweight limit of 175lbs after weighing in at 181.4 – leaving a furious Bamba demanding compensation.

Fury, 23, has managed to salvage his place on the undercard to the Floyd Mayweather v Deji exhibition bout though, with Lambert agreeing to step in at short notice. But now Taylor, who in the pre-event press conference this week nearly came to blows with Fury’s father John, has claimed his rival only opted for Bamba after turning down another offer.

“I told Tommy team that I will fight on a four hour notice as the co-main against Tommy Fury and the response was ‘too tough of an opponent’. He needs more time to train to fight me,” tweeted Taylor. “BITCH I’m 5’6 with a 67” reach you 6’1 with a 76” reach and you want to fight Jake Paul. FOH.”

Fury and Taylor have met before, in a four round clash in Cleveland last August. That night it was the English fighter who took a unanimous decision, but Taylor has made no secret of his desire for a rematch.

The latest episode is another embarrassment to Tyson’s younger brother, who last December was set to finally settle his verbal feud with Jake Paul. However, despite begging the YouTuber not to withdraw from the bout, it was Fury himself who pulled out, citing injury and illness.

A rescheduled bout was then set for this summer, but was scuppered when Fury was prevented from travelling to the US over his family’s strong links to crime lord Daniel Kinahan. Despite it being public knowledge that Tyson and John were subjected to the sanction, the boxer bizarrely claimed he didn’t realise why he was unable to board the flight.

Paul himself was due to be ringside when Fury fought Bamba at the Coca Cola Arena, and even joked he’d be ready to step up in case of another withdrawal. And he wasn’t afraid to again fire shots following the latest calamity.

“Tommy Fury…ur getting paid a lot of money to be a professional. But time and time again you show that your not,” he tweeted. “Missed a fight bc of ‘broken ribs’, missed a fight bc you ‘missed a flight’ and now you miss weight by 7 pounds! I feel sorry for Frank and George Warren and the Fury name.”
