Lionel Messi could reunite with three close pals at Inter Miami with more deals lined up

Lionel Messi could be joined by three former Barcelona team-mates at Inter Miami next season with David Beckham’s MLS side preparing a major splash in the transfer market.

Reports emerged over the weekend that Messi has ‘agreed’ a record-breaking deal to join the Florida-based franchise in the summer, and although his representatives have since rubbished the news, it appears Miami are doing all they can to curry favour with the PSG superstar.

It’s understood they’re in talks to sign Luis Suarez, Cesc Fabregas and Sergio Busquets – all of whom spent years playing alongside Messi at Camp Nou.

Messi is particularly close with Suarez and Fabregas, with the trio regularly pictured on holiday together, while Busquets has shared a pitch with the Argentine more times than any other player.

Suarez has just stepped away from elite European football after joining Uruguayan outfit Nacional over the summer, as has Fabregas, who moved to Serie B side Como, though Busquets remains a central cog in Barcelona’s first team.

Should any of the four men join Miami next year it’ll be seen as a major coup for the club, whose only genuinely notable capture was Gonzalo Higuain (who has since retired) back in 2020.

Fans on social media have been grimacing at the thought of Messi taking orders from Inter Miami boss Phil Neville, with some calling it a “crime against humanity”, and adding Suarez, Fabregas and Busquets to the mix won’t exactly make anyone feel better.

Messi’s PSG contract expires at the end of the season, and despite links to the US and to former club Barcelona, the French champions are still hopeful they’ll be able to extend his deal. In any case, the 35-year-old’s future won’t be decided until after he returns from the World Cup, which could be early as Thursday if Argentina lose to Poland.
