Harry and Meghan ‘exploiting’ royal titles as critics call for them to be stripped

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have received fresh calls for their royal titles to be stripped.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex released the second and final batch of episodes of their Netflix documentary today (December 15) and with it, launched controversial claims against Buckingham Palace and the Royal Family.

But with the clear animosity between the Sussexes and the Firm not looking to let up any time soon, the pair have faced new calls to drop their royal titles.

Taking to Twitter, one royal fan said: “So sick of the Harry and Meghan show.

“Feel sorry for them, but they made their bed. They’ve had their say, now it’s time to put up and shut up.

“Time to take away their royal titles?”

Others accused the pair of using the titles for their own profit, despite their criticism of the very institution that gave them the prestigious labels.

“What I don’t get is if the royal family is so horrible, why do you insist on keeping your titles and using them for profit?” another Twitter user added.

Meanwhile a third chimed in: “Meghan Markle and Harry want to be royal with a royal allowance, without any royal duties.

“And on top of this, exploit their titles to profit personally – not promoting the UK, hurting it. Traitors.”

Others weren’t quite so unforgiving, however, and backed the Duke and Duchess.

“I really like Harry & Meghan and everything they stand for,” Made in Chelsea star Lucy Watson said.

“Princess Diana would be proud of them for standing up for what they believe in. Going against the grain takes balls.”

Another Twitter user agreed: “All these people calling for Harry & Meghan to lose their titles and for Harry to be removed from the line of succession, I notice they aren’t asking for Andrew to be stripped of his title or his place in the line of succession.”

The final three episodes contained numerous claims against Buckingham Palace, including that bullying allegations against Meghan had deliberately been released immediately before she and Harry released their Oprah interview in a bid to deflect attention away from their bombshell claims.

“The timing of the bullying story has even been admitted by the journalist that wrote it that it was done explicitly because of the Oprah interview,” a commentator said in the programme.

“Harry and Meghan’s spokesperson tells us and The Times this: ‘The Duchess is saddened by this latest attack on her character, particularly as someone who has been the target of bullying herself and is deeply committed to supporting those who have experienced pain and trauma.’”

Harry also claimed his older brother, Prince William, had shouted at him in a “terrifying” exchange.

“It was terrifying to have my brother scream and shout at me, and my father say things that just simply weren’t true, and my grandmother quietly sit there, and sort of take it all in,” Harry revealed in the penultimate episode of the six-part docuseries.

“But you have to understand that, from the family’s perspective, especially from hers, there are ways of doing things, and her ultimate sort of mission, goal, slash responsibility is the institution.
