Shakhtar Donetsk chief confirms Arsenal’s interest in £85m winger Mykhailo Mudryk ahead of January transfer window – but warns Mikel Arteta he faces competition

Shakhtar Donetsk’s deputy sporting director Carlo Nicolini has confirmed Arsenal’s interest in signing Mykhailo Mudryk during the January transfer window.

Mikel Arteta hopes Mudryk’s arrival will help Arsenal in their pursuit of Premier League glory this season.

Nicolini (pictured on the left) confirmed the news during a TV interview on Tuesday

Speaking to TVPlay, Nicolini said: ‘Mudryk has received the message, like all the other players, to show up for the training camp in Antalya on January 9.

‘Arsenal’s interest is there, I can’t deny it. However, today he is called up for the first training camp which runs from January 9 to February 9, then in Warsaw we will prepare for the next European games.

‘Many clubs have taken an indirect interest in Mudryk, without an official offer. There have been a lot of phone calls.

However, Nicolini has said that Arteta (above) will face stiff competition from other clubs

‘I believe that today the Italian teams find it difficult to take a profile like this, both for what it is worth and for the lack of courage in investing in such a profile.’

Shakhtar are believed to value Ukraine international Mudryk at £85million, with the club considering him among the world’s finest talents in his position.

Mudryk’s price-tag sky rocketed after his impressive performances in the Champions League this season.

The 21-year-old also hinted at a possible move to Arsenal, claiming he ‘can’t say no’ to the north London club and that the Premier League is ‘every player’s dream’.

However, Arsenal will have to fend off competition from several clubs to secure Mudryk’s services.
