Anyone disappointed to have missed out on a white Christmas should brace themselves for a dumping of snow.
Over the coming days, icy weather will blast the UK from the west and engulf certain areas of the country, including the whole of Northern Ireland.
Forecasts suggest snow will first hit Scotland on Boxing Day and by Friday, the rest of Britain is set for a blistering downpour to worsen with winds blowing in clouds from the Atlantic, as the WXChart shows.

According to the BBC Weather report, the last week of 2022 will be largely cloudy for London, with a few sporadic instances of rain.
Friday will be mainly wet throughout the day, with temperatures around 10C. The rain will continue on to New Year’s Eve, clearing around 7 pm.
The Met Office warned: “Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services.
“A very small chance of interruptions to power supplies. Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.”
According to the weather service, Brits are reminded that “wintry showers are likely to combine with some icy surfaces to cause some travel disruption, mainly to higher routes.”
Sharing their reaction to the sub-zero arctic plunge, Jim Dale, meteorologist for British Weather Services, said: “It starts turning colder again through the latter part of Christmas Day and into Boxing Day.
“Cold air comes down from the Arctic through the next 24 hours, although it may stall halfway down the country and move away.
“However, Boxing Day will be much colder for many.”
Met Office meteorologist Alex Deakin predicted a sudden shift in wind direction would send the mercury plummeting. as shown in the chart above.
He claimed: “It is going to be a mild day on Christmas day, but later on, as winds switch direction, colder air may push back across the Western Isles and Highlands of Scotland, which could allow some late snow flurries here.
“As we go through the night, we do open the door to more snow showers coming in, and some very gusty conditions with snow showers peppering western Scotland as we head into Boxing Day.”

But the Met Office forecasts that there will be “some sunshine for all.”
They shared: “Mainly dry in the southeast, but wintry showers will affect some northwestern areas, with further snow, especially over Scottish hills. Colder generally, emphasised by the wind.”
The outlook for Tuesday, according to MeteoGroup UK, “starts with widespread rain across most of the UK.”
