I’m a flight attendant and this is why you should NEVER wear shorts on a plane
A flight attendant has shared his top rules for air travel – and wearing shorts is a big no-no.
Taking to TikTok, Tommy Cimato, from Arizona, explained that while people may want to be comfy while flying, shorts should be the last option.
He said: ‘Don’t or try not to wear shorts when you’re on an airplane. It’s the same thing as the window. You never know how clean it’s gonna be, so if you have pants, you’re gonna have less germs.’
He said that jeans were a safer bet if you wanted to avoid germs.
Flight attendant Tommy Cimato advises people against wearing shorts so as to reduce the number of germs they come into contact with
Reeling off a list of other plane tips, he added: ‘Do not ever touch the flush button with your bare hands.
‘It’s honestly just super unsanitary and pretty gross, so when you flush, use a napkin or tissue that’s in the lavatory.’
And he added: ‘Don’t forget to drink water. Stay hydrated. You wanna have about 16oz for every flight you go on, so keep that in mind.’
He shared his tips under @tommycimato called 5 Things You Should Never Do On An Aeroplane – with the video getting more than 650,000 likes.
He also advises never to touch the lavatory button with your hands as it will also be covered in germs
Sharing other tips, Tommy explained: ‘Do not fall asleep or lean your head on the window. You are not the only that has done that and you don’t know how many people or children have wiped their hands or other things all over the window.
‘Don’t feel afraid to let a flight attendant know if you’re feeling sick. So if you need food, water, or an air sickness bag, please feel free to let us know.’
Tommy regularly posts videos about flying on his TikTok channel.
Some of his popular have involved him revealing things that people have said to flight attendants.
This includes people offering him beds for the night when he flies to their home location – something which he finds strange.
He is not the only person who posts about flying, however.
Recently, a former flight attendant revealed the type of passenger cabin crew hate the most.
Kat Kamalani, from the US, worked on planes for six years.
She recently posted a TikTok video in which she said it’s not babies who annoy the crew, but rather the people who complain about the babies.
The social media star and mother-of-two explained there’s nothing worse than this type of complaint because it makes both the parents and the staff uncomfortable.
Kat Kamalani (pictured) worked as a flight attendant for years and only now just realized the most irritating thing about a certain type of passenger. Kat said there’s nothing worse than when someone complains about a screaming baby
‘I promise you, there’s nothing that irritates us more as a flight attendant when people complain about a baby crying,’ Kat said in the video.
‘DON’T even ask to be moved to a different seat, no one wants that baby to stop crying more than that parent.
‘So if you’re travelling, bring noise-cancelling headphones, or maybe ask the parent if they need help.’
The short video was viewed more than 1.4 million times and thousands commented on the topic agreeing.
One mother recalled the time she was in the exact situation when her baby was crying on a flight and wrote: ‘I had a flight attendant tell me “let her cry, you won’t see these people again anyways”. It helped me so much.’
‘Babies cry probably because height pressure causes them ear pains,’ another TikTok user wrote.
A current flight attendant also weighed in on the discussion.
‘I am a flight attendant and I get really mad when passengers complain to me about the crying baby…like what do you want me to do?’ she said.
Others who have sat next to babies on a flight in the past said they have offered to assist.
‘I once spent a 1.5 hour flight playing with a fussy baby with a 1/2 empty water bottle while their Momma napped. Kept baby happy,’ one wrote.
Kat’s latest viral video comes just weeks after she laid bare the worst thing a plane passenger can do during a flight.
Kat previously took to TikTok to reveal the that travelers should ‘absolutely never’ hit the call button when the aircraft is on the tarmac or during take-off and landing
She revealed that many people made the mistake, and that the actions of passengers who press the call button during take-off or landing can lead to ‘serious consequences’
According to the former flight attendant, travelers should ‘absolutely never’ hit the call button when the aircraft is on the tarmac or during take-off and landing because it is incredibly unsafe for crew members to walk to a seat during that time.
‘This drives flight attendants absolutely bonkers, and we usually won’t even come to it until it is safe,’ she said in a TikTok video.
Kamalani revealed that many people make the same mistake, and that the actions of passengers who press the call button during take-off or landing can lead to ‘serious consequences.’
‘The reason being that it’s a huge safety issue for us and we can get injured, and same with [the passengers],’ she said.
‘So when we’re on the tarmac, you hit this and it’s not some type of emergency, we’re going straight back to our seat.’
She added, ‘If you hit this while we’re going up on the aircraft or we’re going down when we’re landing, we won’t even come to the light, we’d come to it afterwards.’
