Fan filmed landing huge bet from nine-darter at final and goes wild inside Ally Pally

There were wild scenes of celebration inside Alexandra Palace as Michael Smith pinned double 12 to complete a stunning nine-dart finish in the World Championship final.

But one darts fan had more reason than most to be jubilant after claiming to have bet 5,000 euros (£4,400) on there being a perfect leg at odds of 12/1. The big moment came in the second set of the match in what must go down as the greatest leg in darts history as Michael van Gerwen, who had the throw, narrowly missed out on a nine-darter himself, just missing double 12.

Smith followed up to go one better to pin only the second ever nine-dart leg in a World Championship final. The moment of history was filmed by sports tipster Rob Heneghan, the man who had lumped 5k on the feat.

Van Gerwen looked to be his best hope initially, with Heneghan saying: “Three more darts for a nine-darter.”

Smith then crashed in his second 180 of the leg to raise excitement levels even further. After Van Gerwen’s near miss, Heneghan and his friends then went crazy as Smith did take out double 12.

The Irishman posted the clip via his Pro Sports Advice TikTok page, with many fans offering their congratulations. “Well done, that’s amazing,” said one while another added: “Well done man. Continued success.”

Smith himself admitted he has been watching it over and over.

Tweeting in the early hours of the morning, the new world champion tweeted: “Probs boring everyone but I’ve watched that 9 about a million times. It wouldn’t have even been that good if @Wayne501Mardle wasn’t commenting it. What a credit he is to the team.”
