American living in the UK ‘confused’ as to why pub tables have ‘tiny holes’ in

An American living in the UK was left baffled as to why pub tables have ‘tiny holes’ in.

Visiting the pub is a common activity for many Brits so not much within the boozer makes them bat an eyelid.

However, that was not the case for one US expat.

On a cold winter evening, the American decided to head to their local drinking spot when something in the pub garden left them confused.

“Can someone please tell me why all the tables in the pubs in the UK have strange tiny holes in the middle of them?” they pleaded in a now viral TikTok video.

“I’m so confused.”

Good job plenty of Brits were on hand to educate the puzzled American about outdoor furniture.

Some provided the correct answer – that being the hole for umbrellas.

Although others found it the perfect opportunity to be sarcastic and rinse the American for not knowing what the gap is for.

One person commented: “They’re for umbrellas when it’s summer, it’s to stop the sun from hitting you.”

Another user mocked: “They’re so that the tables can breathe, obviously!”

While a third voiced: “Table golf.”

Someone else said: “For the same reason some patio furniture in the US does.”

Meanwhile, a fifth chuckled: “Ash trays, duh.”

But, this is not the first time the American has had issues with being ‘confused’ since relocating across the pond.

Previously, they took to TikTok to ask why Brits have garages in their ‘living rooms’ and ‘park’ in the garden.

And it certainly caught the attention of homeowners.

The American also questioned why supermarkets have clocktowers and the reason why Brits ‘trap’ trees in metal cages.

Sounds like they are never short of suffering from culture shock!
