Ex-Man Utd boss Ralf Rangnick gave huge praise about ‘remarkable’ Marcel Sabitzer

Ex-Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick was full of praise for Marcel Sabitzer – who is set to sign for United – when the pair worked together at RB Leipzig.

Sabitzer had been a standout at the East German side before he earned a move to Bayern Munich. Rangnick oversaw Sabitzer’s move from Red Bull Salzburg to Leipzig in 2015 – and speaking five years later he beamed about his development.

Rangnick told Kicker: “His development couldn’t have been any better. He has never liked to lose, which I absolutely believe is a positive thing. But he used to get a little too fired up.

“He has clearly changed for the better and has become a leader. The way he has developed his personality is remarkable. I’ve only rarely experienced something similar.”

Rangnick has something of a frosty relationship with fans in Manchester, having failed to reignite the Red Devils during his short period in charge. The German was brought in as an interim manager, with a view for an advisory role – but he left at the end of the season.

Cristiano Ronaldo then slammed Rangnick in his bombshell interview with Piers Morgan in November.

“After Ole, they bring in sport directive Ralf Rangnick, which is something nobody understands. This guy is not even a coach. A big club like Manchester United bringing in a sport directive surprised not only me but all the world.

“If you’re not even a coach, how are you going to be the boss of Manchester United? I’d never even heard of him.”
