Jurgen Klopp wants N’Golo Kante on free transfer from Chelsea to solve Liverpool crisis

Jurgen Klopp could try and bring in Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante in a bid to solve his midfield crisis at Liverpool – and in turn weaken a major rival.

The France international, a World Cup and Champions League winner, has only made two appearances so far this season due to injury, but that won’t put off potential suitors with his current deal expiring in the summer.

One of those suitors might well be Liverpool according to a new report, with Klopp both a huge fan of the 31-year-old as well as in dire need of midfield reinforcement.

According to Catalan outlet El Nacional, Klopp has requested the signing of Kante to the Liverpool board, with Todd Boehly ready to meet with Kante to hear his plans.

Any deal would be done in the summer with Kante’s contract still having six months, but a pre-contract agreement could be signed as he sorts his future.

Klopp said this month there would be no further deals following the arrival of Cody Gakpo and exit of Jake Cain, despite the club sitting ninth in the table and being out of both domestic cups.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have continued to splash the cash and have been linked with a bumper Transfer Deadline Day move for Argentina starlet Enzo Fernandez.

The Blues might need to splash out £115million in order to add the youngster to the squad of Graham Potter, who has already welcomed six players in January alone.

With Boehly’s spending in the region of £500m on players in just six months, the exit of Kante might not be as damaging to their squad as it once was.

Potter hasn’t spoken about the future of Kante during his time on the sidelines, instead saying back in October that his fitness was the priority.

He said: “The most important thing for us and for me is that we help him get fit. That’s the focus.

“He’s got a long road ahead of him so we have to make sure that we get him the right treatment, we help him get back fit and strong, and once he’s enjoying his football we can think about those things then.”
