Chelsea fans say ‘Aubameyang is done’ as flop is axed from Champions League squad

Chelsea fans have been split over the treatment of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after he was left out of their Champions League squad – but most agree he is finished at Stamford Bridge.

The 33-year-old former Arsenal captain, who joined from Barcelona while Thomas Tuchel was in charge, will play no further part in Europe despite scoring twice in the group stages.

With Aubameyang and Benoit Badiashile left out of the 25-man squad, he can’t feature against former club Borussia Dortmund in the last 16, but new boys Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk will be free to do so.

The announcement got a huge reaction on social media, with some saying that Graham Potter and his staff had made the right decision but others not so sure.

One Blues fan wrote: “No Aubameyang in our UCL squad? Yeah he’s definitely done at Chelsea.”

Another fan said: “No point wasting minutes on him, would rather give the minutes to let players develop.”

A third posted: “Aubameyang has no future at Chelsea and has the lowest value on the transfer market. It’s logical to drop him over anyone else.”

A more sympathetic Chelsea fan said: “I actually feel sorry for Aubameyang. Man hasn’t done anything wrong for us to treat him like s***.”

Aubameyang left Barcelona having been replaced as their key striker by Robert Lewandowski despite scoring 13 times across his 24 appearances after leaving Arsenal.

He moved to Chelsea on a two-year contract in September in a bid to rekindle the form he showed under Tuchel at Dortmund, but the manager was sacked five days later.

Aubameyang has scored a total of three goals for the club across his 17 outings, but is firmly out of favour under Potter who has played Kai Havertz down the middle.

With Chelsea taking on Dortmund in the Champions League later this month and again in March, Aubameyang can still play a part in the Premier League.
