Mind-melting optical illusion challenges people to find animal hiding in stripes

Can you spot the animal hiding in this snap in less than 10 seconds?

A frog is located in the stripy image shared by JargonJosh, which is bound to mess with your vision.

The sequence of black and white lines creates a camouflage effect, which is makes the task harder than you’d expect.

If you’re struggling to see the amphibian, we’d recommend moving your screen a bit further from your face.

Then by scrolling back and forward over the image, you can reveal the faint outline of a frog.

Optical illusions occur when something appears to be different than it actually is, playing tricks on our perception.

So how do they work?

Donald Hoffman, a vision scientist at the University of California, has been researching the matter.

Previously, the expert explained how we sometimes process two-dimensional images as 3D.

This causes the brain to re-construct pictures, making them view them differently from how they actually are.

People can also interpret images in different ways – as we saw with ‘The Dress’ debate that broke the internet in 2015.

While some saw a picture of a frock as blue and black, others were convinced that it was white and gold.

Other baffling snaps have gone viral since ‘The Dress’ too – including photos of chest of drawers and trainers.
