‘My fiancée proposed over TikTok after 3 weeks – we didn’t meet until 2 years later’

Long-distance relationships are hard at the best of times – let alone when your soulmate is on the other side of the world.

That’s what British influencer Janae Owyn believes she found after she met her now-fiancée, Walle Cordero, over TikTok just over two years ago.

The 34-year-old, from Birmingham, aka @curvyblackwitch, was on a live stream talking about the type of woman she was looking to date after she realised she was demisexual.

Demisexual is a term used to describe someone who needs an emotional connection to be sexually attracted to someone.

But it was on that stream that Walle, 37, who lives in New York, started to comment saying she is a lot like what Janae has been searching for – and so the pair started messaging each other.

Speaking to the Daily Star, Janea said: “We”ve been together two years and a few months – but we got engaged about two to three weeks after we started talking.

“When you know, you know! I feel like for a lot of people have a timescale, like when people go, ‘okay, you’ve met someone, you gotta be with him for six months do this. Then after a year, you get engaged.’

“I was just so sick of like, relationship constraints. Walle proposed to me on my TikTok live.

“I remember because I was like, ‘what?’ I was in the middle of putting blusher on or highlight and I remember freezing, mid-blush.

“I think a lot of people in the comments were just going ‘wait, what?’

“I said yes and I haven’t looked back since.”

The pair were engaged within three weeks of speaking to each other – despite the fact the pair hadn’t actually met in person.

The couple had plans to meet each other within the first few months but their plans changed due to coronavirus travelling restrictions.

But to keep the relationship working, Janea insists it’s all about communication and trust.

She added: “It’s about communication. It’s about making sure that you see each other it’s about, you know, the texts, phone calls, it’s showing love, even if it’s something small like sending a little gift here, there and everywhere.

“A little romantic text or like I love you. I’m a sappy girl. I’m not even gonna lie. I love all things romance.

“I think with long-distance relationships, it makes you value and appreciate someone a lot more.

“Instead of just being the physical. Of course, the physical is like the cherry on top of the cake.

“But when you have that connection that is built through emotions, and you can feel that energy from one another and you can feel that love that’s what makes it work.”

They finally met for the first time when Janae flew 11 hours from the UK to New York, US in January 2023 and had an “amazing time together, visiting the Big Apple, meeting family and friends, going for dinners.”

Janae is now focused on their future and is considering relocating to New York to be with Walle and has described their relationship as “the best she’s ever been in.”
